I love HIIT!!!!!!

I havent done HIIT for a while, and I was flicking through a magazine on Tuesday night when I saw a brief little article about it. And I thought, hmmmm, why havent I done any interval cardio lately? The answer is "there is no answer"!! I've been concentrating on working my butt off with weights that I havent paid close attention to my cardio. Dont get me wrong, I'm not neglecting my cardio, I've just been doing either a steady state jog, or a steady state elliptical/cross trainer (I never know which to call it!)

Sooooooo guess what I did yesterday morning?!!!! Ah I forgot what a good workout it is... killer!! I decided to take the harder option - so stepped on the treadmill and did a combination of jog/sprint intervals... woooooohoooooo! Felt great! I had my little arms and legs pumping like you wouldn't believe! I had my ipod on, music blaring, going hard! The woman on the treadmill beside me kept looking at me, so I was beginning to wonder if I was breathing (panting!) really loudly or something! I couldn't hear a thing my music was so loud (it had to be loud to block out the tragic music they were playing at the gym).

Well I had an abdominal CT scan on Wednesday, what a bizarre experience that was. Felt like I was going into the Stargate. I had to fast for 4 hours (so my meals were buggered up again!), then have a barium drink, then have a dye injected. I've always been told that I have nice big veins, but I've never had an injection like that before. I feel like a bit of a human pincushion at the moment, the needle kept coming out of the vein when the dye tried to go in, so after the third attempt it stayed in long enough to get some dye into me. They dye makes you feel all hot, and you get this metallic taste in your mouth, weird. Then the needle popped out right at the end (stupid veins!!), and squirted dye under my skin - eeek! -. So the're quite sore today and bruises on both arms. What a great look that is. Lucky its winter and I can wear long sleeves!

Didnt finish work until quarter to 7 last night, then had to come home and prepare some more meals for the rest of the week as I'd run out. So I was very tired and grumbly last night. I felt absolutely exhausted last night so I decided to let my body rest and not go to gym today. Not that I feel any better for it, I feel totally stuffed - having all these tests seems to take it out of you, both phyically and mentally.

Anyway all this corruption of my schedule has me feeling a little frazzled. I'm hoping thats the last of the fasting and water loading for now. I'm getting a bit fed up of going to the medical centre to be honest. Its only been a week, but I've been up there every day! Hopefully in a few more days I'll have an answer.

I think I'm going to give myself another day off from gym tomorrow - I just dont feel well at the moment, quite lethargic. Off to bed early tonight I think.

Monday update

Well I had an OK weekend - a little bit of hormonal eating - not too bad though.

Saturday was the usual - dogs got Hydrobathed, housework, groceries, washing - actually most of the clothes are still on the line - will it ever stop raining?!! Poor Kerry comes to Queensland for a holiday and comes in the one week of the year that it rains!! We cant complain though - we really need the rain. If only it would fall in the catchment areas instead of on the coast. We're on level 3 water restrictions because of the drought - and its starting to be a bit scary.

Sunday I went to a GBandA (Gifts, Bags and Accessories) party, got to catch up with my girlfriend and her gorgeous 5 month old son Joshua! Got to have a cuddle of him while she bought a few things... but I'm STILL NOT clucky. Maybe I'll get clucky one day (before I get too old!!). Anyway, I bought a few hair accessories (now that I've got hair long enough for them!!) and a bracelet. The last of the big spenders!!

No exercise on the weekend - it was just too busy. I had a free meal on Saturday night - AND I had a Mars Bar for dessert. BF was looking at me strangely, because before I opened it I was holding it lovingly and singing "I've - got - a - Mars - Bar" to him - grinning stupidly. He doesn't really like chocolate, so he just doesn't get it. For me it was a big deal! I took my time with it, and I really really enjoyed it!!

Legs this morning again - a pretty good workout considering my knee has been twinging all weekend for some strange reason. Anyway, it didn't hurt today, maybe a little niggle during squats. My meals today have all been stuffed up. I had to go for an ultrasound this morning because of those stomach pains I've been having. Anyway, because of that, I had to not eat for 6 hours prior. So I just didnt have breakfast. On top of that I had to drink a litre of water beforehand and not go to the loo. Quite uncomfortable - and it was a bizarre experience to be able to look at my heart whilst it was beating in my chest!

The good news is that I dont have gall stones (which was the next suspect on the list) but there is something a bit funny with my bile duct (sounds gross doesn't it), so now I have to go back to the doc and find out whats next!

Anyway, thats me done! Have a great Tuesday everyone!

Pics from new camera...

Chicken & Veg Soup!!

Ok - its not the worlds most exciting recipe - in fact, its pretty simple and plain. So here it is...

Chicken and Veg Soup

French Onion Soup Mix
Chicken Breast
Enough water to cover the ingredients
Celery sticks (including leaves) - roughly chopped
One onion, chopped
Chopped veges - carrot, capsicum, brussel sprouts (quartered), beans, zucchini, broccoli... etc
1/2 cup uncooked rice/pasta
Soy sauce to taste

Add water and soup mix to the pot, and bring to the boil. Add the chicken breast (I usually cut it up into smaller pieces), chopped celery and onion. Cook for about 10-15 minutes.

Add the rest of the veges, rice and soy sauce. Simmer for about 20 minutes.

After 20 minutes, remove the chicken pieces, place on a chopping board and "shred" the meat (using two forks to pull it apart). The chicken should be nice and tender due to cooking for so long. Add the chicken back into the soup, mix and serve!!

Mission Accomplished: My legs are FRIED!!

Ouchie my legs are so sore! Got out of bed on Tuesday morning and could barely move. Made for an interesting cardio session! lol! Nah it was all good once I warmed up, got 30 minutes done on the treadmill at an incline of 12, followed by 20 minutes on the cross trainer, where my feet went numb. This always happen to me on the elliptical/cross trainer - usually about 15 minutes into it the toes start to tingle, and no matter how much I wiggle them or shift my foot position, they always end up going numb. Very annoying!!

Sore quads and hammies made for some interesting facial expressions when I was stretching. I kept thinking, if anyone looks at me now when I'm stretching they're gonna laugh at me - gawd it hurt, I was grimmacing. I havent had such sore legs for months - I'm now using my arms to lower myself onto chairs. Even rolling over in bed makes my legs hurt!! LMAO! Its always the first few steps that hurt the worst though, but it does make you walk funny!

Hobbled to gym this morning, and it took me about 5 minutes to climb up the 4 flights of stairs to the gym. It crossed my mind to take the lift, but I just cant bring myself to do it. I feel lazy if I take the lift. I did back and chest today, so I'm gearing up for a sore upper body to go along with my sore lower body. I always know when I've had a good back session, because I always get a corker of a headache the next day (from muscle tension in my back).

Eats are going great - I've been enjoying my chicken and veg soup for meal 2. Warms me up, and nice to have on a rainy winter day. Lunches are stir fried chicken and veges with rice. Feel sooo much better than I did last week, amazing how simple things like eating sandwiches can make you feel so terrible. I'm much happier without it.

Got home yesterday to find that BF had turned the power off as he was installing a heat lamp in the bathroom. We were in the dark for about an hour and a half, during which time I couldnt do ANYTHING. Its hard to cook in the dark with no power! But I was hungry, and I wanted to nibble. Happy to say that although it was extra food, I chose sugar snap peas and cherry tomatoes to snack on. At least I'm making some better food choices.

Anyway, I'm tired now so off to bed early for this little chicken!! Nighty-night!

I love being motivated!!

I'm so motivated at the moment, I love it! We went to a BBQ yesterday, and my goodness you should have seen the spread! I was pretty good though - I drank a diet ginger beer while everyone else was boozing around me, and you should have seen the sweets!! Chocolate mud cake, cheesecake, fruit sponge cake, and huge platter full of assorted chocolates... AND I HAD NONE!! I was so tempted though, I kept feeling my eyes wander over to those chocolates. But I knew that if I even had just one, I would have trouble stopping.

I cooked the best roast chicken last night, the meat just fell off the bone - mmmm mmmm - if I do say so myself!! lol!

Back to my old gym this morning, ah - familiar things! I was surprised that there werent many familiar faces there this morning. I'm a bit of a loner when I train, I dont usually chat to many people, but this morning I barely recognised anybody. Even the staff were new. I've only been gone two weeks! Oh well, I had a ripper of a leg workout, followed by 20 minutes on the cross trainer. Felt so amazing to be back into it!!!!

I've switched to a 3 day training split - I do love weight training 4 days a week, but at this stage I feel like I need to do more cardio, and use the 3 days of weights to try to maintain my muscle mass. So I will do weights + cardio on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and cardio only on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

I love feeling this strong!!

Long time no post

I'm home again! Thanks to everyone for your lovely comments and well-wishes. I'm feeling 100%, fired up and back into it again! I have to thank all you wonderful ladies in blogland for being such motivational and inspirational women... After catching up with most people's blogs last week I felt myself getting my enthusiasm back, and I am so pumped to be back in this happy place!! Big hugs to you all!!!!

Right, anyway, so I was back into some light exercise by Thursday, and did some weights and cardio on Friday morning. Took the dogs for a walk yesterday afternoon, and will do so again this afternoon. Tomorrow I'm back at my old gym - YAAAAAYYYY~~! I'm going to revise my weights programme this afternoon (I cant believe I'm at week 7 already, and I've been so slack) so BRING IT ON this week! Looking forward to some good old DOMS this week - two weeks without it, hmmmmm I have been slack.

Yesterday I was so motivated that I got up early and did the grocery shopping early before the shops got busy, then I did a big cook up - first some chicken and vegetable soup, and then I made some chicken rissoles. This afternoon I'll cook up a big batch of chicken and vege stir fry with rice to portion out and pack into the freezer for the week.

And guess what - I managed to have a Saturday night without a free meal - wooooooohooooo! I'm so pleased with myself! BF had fish and chips, and I had fish and salad (with mustard ~lol!!). We went to see The Da Vinci Code last night (not as bad as some of the reviews say - a bit long though) and then when we got home I had ONE glass of white wine... that was my only bad thing.

Oh and I have discovered Sugar Snap Peas... mmmm--mmmmm they are my new snack food. Also I have got this addiction to buying new flavours of tea/coffee. I've got this bad habit of standing in the tea/coffee aisle at the supermarket for ages, and just about every week I buy a new box (I'm like a kid in a lollie shop). Well yesterday I found these "Chai Latte" sachets... Vanilla flavoured... let me just say that this is my new treat - one per day. Ooooo they are so yummy!

Anyway I havent taken any photos with my new camera yet, I'm still trying to figure it out!
Next post I should have some to display.

Have a great Sunday everyone!!

I’ve been sick

Well unfortunately I’ve been unable to keep my promise to myself of getting stuck into training this week. When I wrote my last post on Sunday I had a tummy ache, this got worse as the night wore on. I was chugging Mylanta all evening, with no relief. Put myself to bed early, thinking that lying down might help – it didn’t. It felt like my stomach was on fire, coupled with massive stomach cramps, it felt like my whole digestive system was in a washing machine with acid, which every few minutes would squeeze itself together. So there was no sleep… it was a terrible night.

Finally in the morning I woke BF up and got him to go get me some Buscopan from the chemist, which helped and I was able to get about 3 hours sleep.

I had to get on a plane that afternoon too – boy did I feel like crap! Didn’t think I was going to make it, and those 2 hours to Melbourne felt like the longest in history.

Anyway, long story short, I felt like a wet rag on Tuesday, but feeling a lot better today. I still feel lacking in energy, but I’m on the mend. Going to go to the doctor when I get home, as this is about the third time in a year that I’ve had one of these attacks, and I don’t know if its reflux, a food allergy, a stomach ulcer, or what! All I know is that I don’t want another one!

As a consequence of this I havent really been able to eat properly, if at all. I’ve been reluctant to eat and drink because of the repercussions! These things were sent to try us I guess, I might start back at the gym with some walking tomorrow morning – just ease back into it. Next week I’ll be back home, old gym, normal work hours, so I might actually get something like a normal routine accomplished!

Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to catch up with Lia while I'm down here - the Gods are against us I think, we weren't able to organise anything due to conflicting timetables. So it looks like I will have to wait until July! (not long now til the AFC!!)

My camera that I bought off ebay has arrived (back at home) – so when I return I will be taking lots of piccies! A new toy – cant wait!!

Thats about it for me. Going to spend some time tonight catching up on everones' blogs. Enjoy the rest of your week!

No work tomorrow!!!!!

Thank goodness for public holidays! Three days at home before I head back down to Melbourne for week two! Niiiiiiiiice...

After a terrible week in terms of sleeping, I have been having a weekend of catching up. Friday night I got 9 hours, and last night I got 11 hours sleep!!!!! Thing is, I still feel tired. BF reckons I've overslept, but I'm not sure. I think I need more. There is nothing like coming home to your own pillow and mattress (with electric blanket) - never want to leave it!!

We've done a little bit to the house this weekend (decorating-wise), and tonight we're having a barbeque. We've stayed in and had home cooked meals this weekend, because I'm so sick of eating restaraunt meals!! (you never think you'll say that, but when you've eaten restaraunt food or take-away for lunch and dinner for a week or two, you change your mind pretty quick!)

BF got up yesterday morning and made me breakfast in bed (eggs on toast). Isn't he lovely!

This weekend I have bought myself a pair of black ankle boots, a new jumper and some new gloves to wear in Melbourne. Also I am planning on doing much more exercise than last week, and making much better food choices.

Hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend!

Busy!

I’m in need of some of that happiness dust today I think!!

Frantic stressed busy crazy long days at work. Lots of * fun * hmmm – lucky I get to go home tomorrow, and stay there for THREE whole days!!!

The gym at the hotel is finally fixed!!! Only got fixed yesterday afternoon, but with working late there was no training for this little duck on Tuesday and Wednesday. I slept terribly last night, but managed to drag my butt out of bed this morning to fit in a fabulous 30 minute jog on the treadmill - I could have gone longer but my ankle started to hurt, and it felt like I needed to crack the joint to make the pain go away, so I thought it best to stop. Then I went back down to the gym tonight and did a makeshift shoulders/tricep/bicep workout, with another 20 minutes cardio on the bike.

Been having a few glasses of red wine and one night had WOOD FIRED PIZZA for dinner. Terrible terrible. Well I have put that behind me now, I’ve been pretty tired so it was hard to resist - I succombed to peer pressure! Tonight I'm having a steak with garden salad and no salad dressing in my room. And drinking water. Arent I good? hehehee its about time!

I dont really have much to report except that I'll be happy to get back to the relative warmth of Brisbane tomorrow! Well at least I know what sort of clothing to bring down next week! Hopefully I can catch up with Lia next week too - how exciting!

Bye for now

Hilary xx

*Waving* from Melbourne!!

Its chilly in Melbourne!!

A whole bunch of us from my company from all over Australia arrived at Melbourne airport on Sunday night – it was like a big reunion!! I got up this morning to get to the hotel gym for 5.30am… managed to fit in half an hour of cardio to start the day – woohoo!. Had to be at the office by 7am (and its still DARK at 7am – What the…!?)

Finished work at about 5.30pm (a long day for me!! – eyes hanging out of my head. Lol!), headed back to the hotel, got changed ready for a weights workout… got to the gym… all the lights are out and theres a sign out the front saying “THIS AREA CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE”. Again – What the… ?!!! So the hotel manager says they’ve had a whole bunch of power blow in the gym today. Definetely wont be fixed until tomorrow evening, at the earliest. Grrrrrrrrrrr

So, all dressed up and no-where to work out! Headed back to my room to do push ups and sit ups. Oh well – its better than nothing I guess. I’m quite chuffed with myself too that I managed to do 4 sets of ‘mens’ push ups, 1x15, 1x13, 1x10 and 1x9 reps. I had no idea I could do that many, so I’m quite pleased with that!!

Because the gym wont be open in the morning, I get a sleep-in tomorrow. Dont have to get up til 6am!! ha - not much of a sleep in!

AND… I’ve been so good today with food and water! Normally when its cold I don’t want to drink so much water because I want to avoid the COLD TOILET SEAT!! Hehehee – but I am making myself drink it – don’t want to wind up dehydrated. I’ve brought my oats with me for breakfast, and I’ve got my protein powder for shakes, rice cakes, protein bars… lunches are salads with beef or chicken.

Thats about it so far - I'm missing home and my lovely boy, dogs, cat, electric blanket etc, but I'm sure this week will fly and I will be home before I know it.

Time to go read some blogs!

Eating

Yesterday I could NOT stop eating! I dont know what's wrong with me! There was a morning tea at work, and unfortunately I was there... eating.... people were saying "I cant believe what I'm seeing Hilary!!" Its like shock-horror - Hilary actually eats rubbish!! Well take a picture folks, you aint gonna see it again for a LOOOOONNNGGGG time! I'm feeling all yuk and bloated now, so I'm totally over eating crap.

I hate blaming this kind of thing on hormones, but I feel like this is what caused me to give in to cravings. I know that I need to be more disciplined, its times like this that I need to show my inner strength and push through - but that sweet tooth just started calling me...

Anyhoo- had another fantastic weight session yesterday - LEGS! Actually enjoyed legs this time, and I even managed to increase my weights on most exercises. I lifted my heaviest ever on leg press, which I'm quite pleased with, and I managed to have no knee problems at all. Gotta be happy with that. Then I headed over to the treadmills and jumped on, only managed to jog for 10 minutes before my legs started to tell me they'd had enough for one session.

This morning I could NOT get out of bed. I woke up with a fuzzy head, headache, and neck ache. Must have slept funny - or pehaps a reaction to the cakes I ate yesterday. Made the decision to stay in bed, so as a result I have not done my chest/tricep workout. Will fit it in on the weekend sometime. There was really no benefit to me staying in bed - I didn't get back to sleep anyway. I just lay there thinking "Get up, get up, get up..."

I have made an ebay purchase, a cool little digital camera. I'm trying to upload the image, but blogger doesnt want to play tonight.

I needed a little camera that will (hopefully) fit in my handbag. Our other camera needs a whole bag of its own, which is quite annoying when you're already carrying heaps of crap! Ordered it last night, but I cant wait to get it!! I should have it in plenty of time for the All Female Classic in July, which is what I really wanted it for.

Busy weekend ahead! I was hoping to be able to catch up with Bel who is coming up from Canberra, but unfortunately we're not going to be able to fit it in. I'm leaving for Melbourne on Sunday afternoon, and we've just got too much stuff to do!! Hopefully I will get to catch up with her again soon.

Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!
