Fishy

I'd like to eat more fish. I like fish that is really mild in taste, without that "dirty" spot that they all seem to have.

Yesterday I decided on a whim to have tinned pink salmon with salad for my afternoon snack. One girl at my work seems to have this every day for lunch, and it always looks nice. So I thought I'd try it. After I dumped the salmon on top of the salad I started to have regrets. The first few mouthfulls were ok, as long as I paired a morsel of salmon with something strong tasting, like a bit of cherry tomato. Then I struck something crunchy - a bone ...shudder... ICK! Almost gagged then and there.

So I ate the rest of the salad, and dumped the salmon. Bleurgh, wont be doing that again. I felt sick all afternoon just thinking about it!

I used to like Basa, until I found it that its Vietnamese Catfish. After that, every time I tried to eat it, I kept mentally picturing whiskers. So I dont eat it anymore.

I can stomach tuna in small doses. Barramundi is ok until you strike one of those "dirty" patches that all fillets seem to have. Dont like smoked salmon. Have tried to cook fresh salmon fillets, but its too strong in flavour - again - yuk.

Anyone got any ideas or suggestions?

I've had an awesome week this week, I've trained hard, done 6 cardios and 2 weights - just gotta fit in a chest/tricep workout this weekend and I'm done. Food has been spot on this week too, which I'm super happy about! Now I just need to be consistent, and keep it up. Cant wait to start seeing some results!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend - we're having a low-key one - I'm about to go weed the veggie garden!

My BF didn't like fish until we had baked salmon at a friends place. It's a fillet of salmon, (I take the skin off), some minced garlic and ginger, honey and soy, marniate these for around 30 mins and bake in the oven. Try to get thinner fillets as the flavour is not so strong if its your first time. Kane has now been eating this for 3 year now and still enjoys this meal. Back in Autralia he will now attempt other fishy meals too... but never tuna! That's only for me. Try and see how it goes.

If you like white fish these are fantastic and cook perfectly everytime. Low fat, low carb sauce that's great if you are having vegs. I can't cook fish so I have these about 4 or 5 times a week. The Thai Coconut are the nicest I think as the sauce thickens and caramelises. They are easy to take to work and zap in the microwave with some salad on the side.

Hilary,

head over Kek's food blog (the one where she puts all her recipes). A few weeks ago she did Thai fish cakes. F*CKEN AWESOME!!!! They are the best way to eat fish and are so easy to do. My WH who is a very fussy fish cake lover, thought they were delish too.

Cheers

What about thai fishcakes? You use something simple like flake and mix it with a variety of ingredients Hilary. It's also eaten with dipping sauces like sweet chilli sauce. If you're interested let me know and I can email you a recipe. :o) xxx

You really don't like fish?! You're weird ;) i had to laugh at your 'dirty' spots though!! lol
Salmon is the bestest, maybe you need to keep practising a bit more! hee hee
Sounds like fishcakes may be the way to go like the other girls mentioned :)
So hows the sleep issue going? Must be better as you're back in hard at the gym?!
Have a nice week!

Hey Hils

you now can buy tinned stuff that has no bones in it. It actually is on the label - boneless salmon and sardines.

Gosh, I don't know what i would do with out my fresh salmon, barra and tinned sardines (boneless or tempters). Yummo!

Fish cakes are always good, premake them on weekend or night before and they are nice hot or cold.

fish is great and healthy too unless it is fried and breaded!!

Thanks Kelly, I might have to give this a try!

Hi Frankie, yes I've tried them and I still find them a bit strong tasting for my liking - I can stomach the thai coconut one every now and then.

Magda I will definetely do some research on Kek's food blog, thanks!

Thanks Ali!

Lia, I think I might have to give these fish cakes a go! They seem to be popular!

Hi Selina, yep - I really dont like fish much. :) Sleep is getting much better, thanks for asking!

Doris thanks for the tip re the boneless salmon - ewww that crunchy bone was disgusting!
